This pattern uses a 15 mm hook and VERY LARGE wool. Seriously. It was like crocheting with rope. It is called ‘Chunky Grande’. It comes in balls of 22 metres/24 yards. This pattern uses 3 balls.

You will also need a 3.5 mm hook and 10 ply wool for the nose, mouth and whiskers. You will need googly eyes and glass beads (or something else heavy)

The pattern is written in American crochet notation. The finished doorstop is 25 cm tall.

Head

Round 1: 6sc in a magic ring (6 stitches)

Round 2: increase in every stitch (12 stitches)

Round 3: sc in the first stitch, increase in the next stitch – repeat (18 stitches)

Round 4: sc in each stitch (18 stitches)

Round 5: sc in the first stitch, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (12 stitches)

Round 6: decrease around (6 stitches)

Stuff

 

Body

Round 7: increase in every stitch (12 stitches)

Round 8: sc in the first stitch, increase in the next stitch – repeat (18 stitches)

Round 9: sc in the first two stitches, increase in the next stitch – repeat (24 stitches)

Rounds 10 – 11: sc in each stitch (24 stitches)

Round 12: sc in the first two stitches, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (18 stitches)

Round 13: sc in the first stitch, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (12 stitches)

Stuff with stuff and glass beads (or something else heavy)

Round 14: decrease until the hole closes (backloops only).

Fasten off, sew the hole closed.

 

Ears (make two)

Attach the wool at an appropriate point, chain 2, dc in the same spot, fasten off, weave in ends.

 

Nose

With a 3.5 mm hook and 10 ply wool

Row 1: chain 6 (one is a turning chain)

Row 2: sc in each stitch (5 stitches)

Row 3: decrease the first two stitches together, sc in the next stitch, decrease the last two stitches together (3 stitches)

Row 4: decrease the remaining 3 stitches together (1 stitch)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail to embroider the mouth.

 

Tail

Round 1: 4sc in a magic ring (4 stitches)

Rounds 2 – 11: sc in each stitch (4 stitches)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

 

Assembly

Sew on googly eyes, the tail and the nose. Embroider the mouth and whiskers.
