Some friends bought a Harry Potter advent calendar for work. Each day in December they would open a door and find a new Harry Potter figurine. They wanted to continue enjoying it in the new year so I suggested that I make new figures to go behind the doors. So I kinda signed myself up to design 24 Harry Potter figurines :/ We’ll see how we go.

This figurine is interactive because you can pull the sword of Gryffindor out of it.

You can also use it as a tasteful accessory for your cat.

This patterns uses a 2mm hook and brown, grey, red and black 4 ply wool. It is written in American crochet notation. The finished hat is 4 cm tall.

Hat

 

With 4 ply brown wool

Round 1: 4 sc in a magic ring (4 stitches)

Round 2: sc in the first stitch, increase in the next stitch – repeat (6 stitches)

Round 3: sc in each stitch (6 stitches)

Round 4: increase in every stitch (12 stitches)

Rounds 5 – 6: sc in each stitch (12 stitches) (2 rounds)

Round 7: sc in the first stitch, increase in the next stitch – repeat (18 stitches)

Rounds 8 – 10: sc in each stitch (18 stitches) (3 rounds)

Round 11: sc in the first two stitches, increase in the next stitch – repeat (24 stitches)

Rounds 12 – 15: sc in each stitch (24 rounds) (4 rounds)

Round 16: sc in the first three stitches, increase in the next stitch – repeat (30 stitches) (back loops only)

Round 17: sc in the first four stitches, increase in the next stitch – repeat (36 stitches)

Round 18: sc in the first five stitches, increase in the next stitch – repeat (42 stitches)

Round 19: sc in the first six stitches, increase in the next stitch – repeat (48 stitches)

Round 20: hdc in the first seven stitches, increase hdc in the next stitch – repeat (54 stitches)

Fasten off, weave in end.

Embroider the face with black wool.

 

Sword of Gryffindor

With grey 4 ply wool

We start with the hilt

Round 1: 4 sc in a magic ring (4 stitches)

Rounds 2 – 3: sc in each stitch (4 stitches) (2 rounds)

Now for the blade

Row 4: use 2 sc stitches to join the sides of the hilt (2 stitches)

Rows 5 – 10: 2 sc (2 stitches) (6 rounds)

Row 11: decrease the two stitches together (1 stitch)

Fasten off, weave in ends.

For the guard

Join the wool to the place where the hilt and blade meet, chain 3, turn and sc 2 back towards the sword. Repeat on the other side. Make sure to weave the ends back into the sword to make it look neat.

I then embroidered a pretty ruby for decoration.

 

Now stuff the sword inside the hat so that it can be revealed in a time of need 🙂
